Sir Kyffin Williams 1930s Military Tin Travel Trunk Chest Welsh Artist

£450.00

This army trunk was owned by the world renowned Welsh artist Sir John Kyffin Williams, OBE, RA (9 May 1918 – 1 September 2006). In 1937 he enlisted into the 6th Battalion Welch Fusiliers and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant. Due to epilepsy he was forced to leave the army. As a result he studied at the Slade School of Fine Art in 1941. Underneath his name and rank, the faint outline of 6th and WF are visible. Measuring 106cm wide x 38cm deep x 26cm tall, it shows evidence of use and age with dents, rust, scratches, some missing lining on the inside, one sliding fastener is missing and the other doesn’t close all the way, and a hole in the base (please see photos). A truly unique piece of Welsh art history.

Thanks for looking.
