Memoirs of Service Afloat During the War Between the States by Admiral Semmes with Star of India Inscription – Illustrated 1869 Rare

£550.00

This scare book measures 16cm x 24cm and shows wear and rubbing to the leather cover and spine. It is inscribed with what I believe to read:

“To Captain Bailey, Ship Star of India, In Kind Remembrance, P. U. Flinn, Mobile, Alabama, April 6th, 1874.” After research, I can’t find a Captain Bailey from the Star of India records. The most famous Star of India is the world’s oldest active ship, and was built in 1863, and currently has a home port of San Diego, California, United States. An intriguing copy of an interesting text.
