This collection of three antique 1909 mugs commemorate the visit of the Mauretania to Fishguard, Pembrokeshire, Wales. The Mauretania was worlds largest ship until the RMS Olympic was built (sister ship to RMS Titanic). They measure 8.5cm tall and are in lovely condition apart from one historic small rim crack and some age related marks (please see photos). One is slightly smaller than the other three. Some of the gold paint on the rims and handles has worn over the last 110 years. They were made by Gan, E. Hughes & Co. Fenton. The Welsh writing says “Rhodd i ddathlu dyfodiad y cyntaf o longau y Cunard i Borthladd Abergwaun Awst 30ain 1909” which translates as “A gift to celebrate the arrival of the first of the Cunard ships to Fishguard Port on August 30th 1909”.
Very rare and highly collectable, they would suit any collection.
